Competitor entries are at capacity and preparations are in full swing to welcome spectators to a Covid Safe day of sporting entertainment in the beautiful parkland surrounding Belsay Hall and Castle. The horse trials run from June 3-5, with ‘Belsay Sunday’ a day of unaffiliated arena eventing and inter-hunt relay taking place on June 6.

The British Pony Championships is the pinnacle of the Pony Trials Series for riders aged 16 years and under riding ponies (14.0hh – 14.2hh). It represents the toughest test for pony riders and is run as a long format international competition over three days to give potential GB Pony Team members vital experience for the European Pony Championships, which take place in August every year.

Similarly, the CCI2*- Long Format competition for Juniors is a three day event for riders aged 18 and under riding horses and is the major trial for those competitors wishing to be selected to represent the GB team at the Junior and Young Rider Europeans which take place in Sweden in August this year.

With the event cancelled in 2020 due to Covid, organiser Laura de Wesselow has been working extremely hard to make this year’s event happen: “So many organisers of British Eventing Horse Trials, as well as regional and local shows have just given up trying to arrange events this year amid all the uncertainty of Covid,” she said.

"We were desperate to continue and have done everything possible to give competitors, sponsors, volunteers and visitors the most fabulous experience, generous prize money and some great entertainment. We really urge people to come along and support this local event.”

Belsay Horse Trials has a specially designed ‘International Arena’ which has state of the art sports drainage, as well as a cross country course, which has been re-designed for 2021 by Adrian Ditcham, who was responsible for the track at the 2018 European Pony Championships held at Bishop Burton.

Due to Covid protocols, tickets for this fabulous event are only available to book online – www.belsayhorsetrials.co.uk/tickets.
