Percy Park RFC U14s 17 Morpeth RFC U14s 31
HAT-TRICK hero George Devereux-Tinley made a stunning return for Morpeth RFC U14s as the Mitford Road youngsters crushed Percy Park on Sunday.
Morpeth were quickly into their stride to get the second half of their season off to a great start, returning to winning ways in blustery conditions at the North Tyneside club and exacting revenge on the side that had beaten them earlier in the season at Mitford Road.
A well-taken try by winger Jake Stephenson saw Morpeth storm ahead within the opening five minutes (converted by Sam Eyres) before Percy Park hit back with a try and conversion to level the score.
However, this was the last time Park seriously threatened as Morpeth took control of the game through a strong, committed and disciplined performance from their ever-improving pack.
Dominating possession and playing for much of the match either side of the break in Park’s half, Morpeth scored twice through centre Devereux-Tinley as he powered over both times following some ropey defending by Park’s backs.
Josh White kept the scoreline ticking over for Morpeth with a well-taken try after another powerful run from the ever-impressive, hard-hitting centre.
Despite Park scoring two late tries and a conversion, the result was never in doubt as Devereux-Tinley capped his man-of-the-match-winning performance with a third try to seal a win for Morpeth that undoubtedly sends them with renewed confidence towards their County Cup clash against Ponteland in a few weeks’ time.
Fly-half Sam Eyres added to his early conversion with two more well-taken kicks to end the game with six points to his name.
