Horden 46 Ponteland 10 Durham and Northumberland, Division One

AN injury-hit Ponteland side were well beaten at Horden on Saturday.

The visitors were already without a few key players, including hooker Kyle Norris who suffered a compound fracture of his hand last weekend, and their cause was made harder in this game when Lee Coulthard and Pete Britland had to go off.

After playing reasonably well for the first 10 minutes, Pont then fell behind and the hosts – coming into this fixture on an impressive seven-game winning run – surged further ahead. They scored four tries in total in the first half.

Just before the interval, Ponteland got on the scoreboard with an excellent passing move that started 10m from their own try-line. It was finished off by winger Chris Searle and Michael Mullins kicked the conversion.

Horden managed another three tries in the second half and all the away side had to show for their efforts was a Mullins penalty. The final score was 46-10.

Ponteland, now 11th in the table but still 12 points clear of the relegation zone, finish their season with three home games.

The first of those is this Saturday against Hartlepool Rovers. Kick-off at the Leisure Centre ground is 3pm.
