Alnwick 42 Ponteland 0 Durham & Northumberland League Division One
PONTELAND finished their season with a heavy defeat at Alnwick.
The visitors started well and got into some good attacking positions, but they could not take advantage of them and were made to pay.
Alnwick stepped up a gear and took a commanding lead when they ran in four tries through Harry Sordy, Peter Brown, Will Massey and skipper Andrew Shell.
One of these was converted to make the half-time score 22-0.
The hosts did not let up in the second-half and James Bird, who had come into the line from full-back, finished off a decent move to extend their lead.
Richard Ellis then touched down before a sharp darting move from Massey saw him wriggle his way over for his second try.
Ponteland made a final bid for a score when the ball was worked to the Alnwick five-metre line and it was swept across the backs, but Maughan was driven into touch.
Ellis rounded off the scoring to make it 42-0 with his second try.
Ponteland will either finish 11th or 12th in the table after promotion last season and they will hope to improve this position in 2011/12.
