Put forward stars and stalwarts

NOMINATIONS are now open for this year’s Morpeth Sports Awards.

The ceremony to recognise great achievements and dedication was brought back last year.

It was a scaled-down version of the one which used to cover the former Castle Morpeth borough until the re-organisation of local government five years ago – when it fell by the wayside. The date for this year’s event, organised once again by the Morpeth Sports Council, is Thursday, May 22. The venue is the same as last year, Morpeth Rugby Club.

Nominations can be made for the following categories: Team Award, Senior Male, Senior Female, Team Award (U18), Team Award (U13), Junior Male (U18), Junior Female (U18), Senior Male Masters Trophy, Senior Female Masters Trophy, Services to Sport, Sportability Person (those who have overcome difficulties).

They can be put forward by residents and members of sports clubs within the parishes of Hepscott, Longhirst, Longhorsley, Mitford, Morpeth, Pegswood, Stannington, Ulgham and Whalton.

Nomination forms are available from Morpeth Town Hall, the Riverside Leisure Centre, Morpeth Library and Morpeth Tourist Information Centre. The closing date for them is Wednesday, April 30.
