Six wicket defeat for Morpeth cricketers

Morpeth 1sts suffered a six wicket defeat when they travelled to take on Tynedale 1sts in the Northumberland & Tyneside Cricket League Division 1 on Saturday.

Morpeth batted first and with Stephen Boyd top scoring on 23 they were all out for only 97, with three Tynedale bowlers taking three wickets apiece.

Tynedale needed 35 overs to chase it down at 101-4 with opener Thomas Cant hitting 53.

In Division 2, Ponteland 1sts went down by 48 runs in their home game against Blue Flames 1sts.

Abubakar Maqsood was 79 not out and Amjad Khan hit 43 as Flames posted 193-8 in their 50 overs, with David Waters taking 4-30.

Pont were 145 all out in reply with Ben O’Brien on 39, Haq Fazal on 32 and Stuart taylor on 31. Khan took 5-25 for Flames.

In Division 3, Blagdon 1sts had a one wicket home win over Benwell & Walbottle.

Benwell made 155 all out with Nick Tomlinson on 40, Cameron Hedgely claiming 4-36.

Blagdon saw Mark Forster top score with 44 as they replied with 156-9, with the winning run coming off the very last ball of the game. Syed Raza took 3-27.

In Division 4, Stobswood 1sts were beaten by Ponteland 2nds.

In Division 5, Ulgham 1sts lost narrowly by one run away to Monkseaton 1sts.

Monkseaton were 79 all out with three bowlers taking three wickets. Ulgham were 78-8 in their 40 overs.

Morpeth 2nds lost by five runs at home to Kirkley 1sts.

Kirkley put on 173-9 with three bats in the 30s, A Lyall taking 4-22.

Ryan Hope hit 48 for Morpeth but they were all out for 168 in reply with Luke Johnson taking 4-27.

Blagdon 2nds had a four wicket away win over Seaton Burn 2nds.

Matthew McAuley hit 41 as Seaton made 115 all out, Alex Higgins taking 3-22. Stuart Dick was 49 not out as Morpeth replied with 117-6.

In Division 6, Ulgham 2nds went down by b35 runs against Berwick 2nds. Berwick were 118-9 with Brian Simmons on 38, Chgris Cowe taking 3-25. Ulgham were 83 all out with Guy Scholes on 27, Simmons taking 5-14.
