Three tries but no bonus for Morpeth

Morpeth made the long journey south down the A1 on Saturday to take on newly promoted Doncaster Phoenix.

Morpeth travelled with a much changed line up from the successful 15 who did so well against Driffield the previous week.

The match itself was the classic “a game of two halves” with a spirited first half performance which saw the Northumberland outfit taking the lead with a display.

Morpeth’s excellent early work was rewarded with an early 17-point lead after only 25 minutes, yet before half-time the warning signs were apparent as the home side hit back with scores of their own to make the score 17-14 at the interval.

Morpeth could no longer keep up the intensity of their first half performance with Phoenix dominating proceedings and using their strength and pace on a very big playing surface to run out easy winners.

In total they ran in eight tries in their final score of 56 points with Morpeth scoring three in response, unfortunately not making the important bonus point mark.

Morpeth’s scores came with tries from Balls,Young and Brown.
