Morpeth U14s 24 Novos 10
MORPETH RFC U14s returned to winning ways last Sunday at Novocastrians, producing a much-improved all-round performance in the Benton mud-fest.
The Mitford Road youngsters played with a huge amount of credit and big hearts to see off Novos 24-10 in a hugely competitive match that sends them into the forthcoming Tynedale cup-tie with renewed confidence in their ability to grind out victories and attack from all quarters of the field.
Centre Josh White was the three-try man-of-the-match with a superb all-round display which included a huge hit on his opposite man mid-way through the first half, pushing the Novos’ player back at least 25 metres.
This set the tone for the second half with some big hits coming in from both Morpeth backs and forwards, ensuring the opposition never really settled into their forward dominated game plan.
A terrific knee-pumping run saw second row Grahame Milne, who put in another good performance to surely reinforce his early season credentials for player-of-the-year, go over following a 30 metre charge to the Novo try-line.
Novos responded with two tries, while Morpeth U14s Sam Eyres claimed two conversions in another good all round display from the talented fly-half.
