All creatures great and small

INFORMATION about creatures great and small can be discovered in Disney’s The Wonderful World of Knowledge.

This week’s book – The Kingdom of Mammals – provides details as well as colourful drawings and photographs of a range of animals living all over the world.

From bears to bats, wild cats to whales and apes to Arctic animals, the book has them covered.

And Disney characters including Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy are also included to add to the fun.

Next week we move onto Sport. Children aged five to ten can learn about a number of ball games and both team and individual sports such as football, rugby and tennis.

Andy Blight, Morpeth School Sport Co-ordinator, believes the book is well worth a look.

He said: “Although some of the pictures are a little dated, I think the book provides a really good insight into the range of sports and events on offer.

“I like the use of diagrams to support facts and there is not too much written information which makes it easy to comprehend for children.

“Children have so much opportunity available to them today, sport is competing against a number of different markets for their time. However, this book shows ‘Sport for all’ and there really is something for everyone.

“I also like the ‘find out more’ box for each activity. This could lead children into searching the internet for more information on the activity.

“In summary, I like the book and hope it will inspire more children to get active and enable them to gain the many intrinsic benefits from being engaged in sporting activity.”

Each book in the collection costs £2.99 and is available with the Morpeth Herald from participating newsagents.
