A best-selling Northumberland author has scooped a six-book deal with an American publishing powerhouse.
An Idiot in love, by 30-year-old David Jester, from Morpeth, will be the first book of six to be released under the new deal with Skyhorse Publications.
Mr Jester was turned down by a number of the UK’s leading literary agencies, but came to the attention of US-based publishing powerhouse Skyhorse, which includes Nobel Prize-winning novelist Samuel Beckett and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Elie Wiesel on its roster.
The deal follows his DIY debut novel topping Amazon’s book charts in both the UK and US.
As part of the book deal, Mr jester will be re-releasing the novel, raunchy dark comedy An Idiot in Love, in June.
After having to drop out of school aged 12, the author feared his dream of becoming a novelist would “never amount to anything”, but notable US literary agent Peter Beren disagreed.
An Idiot in Love, which has been revised and expanded for the new edition, is written in an autobiographical style and chronicles a series of unfortunate sexual encounters and relationships that both sexes can appreciate.
Mr Jester said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have signed to Skyhorse Publishing.
“This has been a long time in the making and I can’t wait to see where this leads.”
Mr Beren said: “David is an incredibly talented writer, and the UK literary scene’s loss is America’s gain.
“He came to me after struggling to make an impact in the UK.
“I was stunned by the lack of interest because his work is so wickedly funny and engaging.
“It immediately grabs you and doesn’t let go.”
An Idiot in Love (Skyhorse Publishing; ISBN 9781510700017) is released in paperback on June 7, priced £9.99 from numerous booksellers.
