A SUFFRAGETTE community event will be held at Beamish Museum.

Beamish Learning and Community Participation Team has been working with schools and community groups across the region to explore the contribution of North-East women to the suffrage cause, including Emily Wilding Davison, and it will be bringing the stories to life this weekend.

Morpeth’s Chantry and Newminster Middle Schools have been involved in the work, along with King Edward VI School, the Emily Inspires team, the Townswomen’s Guild and Woodhorn Museum and Archive.

There will be a march, debate, family activities, a mystery trail and displays of work at Beamish on Saturday and Sunday, with performances by musicians and artistes, including pupils from St Benet Biscop High School in Bedlington.

The events are supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
