A film show will take place in Ponteland to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the first publication of Thomas the Tank Engine books.
Author Rev W. Awdry was a Vicar in Cambridgeshire for many years and the Wisbech and Upwell Tramway went through his parish.
One of his friends, Rev E.R. Boston, had a railway round his vicarage garden at Cadeby in Leicesterhire, and both of them were great railway photographers.
Vicar of Ponteland Rev Peter Barham’s show on Saturday includes film from the tramway, Cadeby and the industrial lines of the East Midlands, as well as some of the events that inspired the stories for children.
It starts at 3pm and will be repeated at 7.30pm in St Mary’s Church Hall, Thornhill Road. Admission is free, but a new church boiler donation plate will be present.
