Exhibition pays tribute to village war heroes

A village will pay tribute to all its former residents who enlisted in the First World War.

Local historian Frances Irene Liddle has researched the names, families and war diaries of the 31 residents of High and Low Hauxley who enlisted.

She has even found photographs of the recruits and newspaper cuttings, and will put them all together in an exhibition.

She said: “We are very fortunate in Hauxley because we know all of the enlisted names whereas most people just know the dead.”

The exhibition, which has been supported by Hauxley Parish Council, will be held in the Village Hall at Low Hauxley, from Monday, August
4 to Sunday, August 10, open from 10am to 4pm each day.
