A MORPETH student’s bold approach paid dividends as she has held her own exhibition.
Ruth Bolam saw a sign outside the Made in Newcastle shop in the city centre saying there was gallery space available so she asked if she could display some of her photographs.
The collective of artists who run the charity scheme, part of the Empty Shop Project to fill vacant units, were suitably impressed with her work and the King Edward VI School Year 10 pupil put up seven photos at its premises in Grainger Street.
She said: “It’s been a great experience to work in the shop and have an exhibition. It’s brilliant to be able to say that I have had an exhibition of my work while still at school and studying for my GCSEs.
“The shop is fantastic and I hope it continues to run for a long time.”
Although her display has finished, limited editions of the photographs and other merchandise showing Ruth’s work, such as cards and key rings, are available at the shop.
