FREE tickets for Northumberland’s Olympic Torch evening celebration will be available next week.
To mark the torch’s journey through the county a music and theatre spectacular will be held at The Pastures in Alnwick, including local talent.
The Olympic Torch Relay Presenting Partners of Coca-Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung will each lay on a 20-minute slot of entertainment, but the highlight will be the lighting of a cauldron on the stage by a celebrity torch bearer.
The event has been organised by Northumberland County Council, The London 2012 Organising Committee, Alnwick Castle, community partners and sponsors.
Council Executive Member for Culture and Tourism Neil Bradbury said: “The event in Alnwick will be Northumberland’s evening of Olympic celebration and will take place just weeks before the opening ceremony of the Games. We hope that thousands of spectators from across the county will turn out to soak up the atmosphere, join in the festivities and witness the once in a lifetime spectacle as the Olympic flame arrives in the town.”
The event will take place on Thursday, June 14, starting at 5.30pm, with gates opening at 4pm. It is standing only, though people can take their own rugs or chairs and there will be full wheelchair access.
Tickets are free, but limited to eight per household.
They can be booked online at www.northumberland.gov.uk from 9am next Thursday and will be distributed as e-tickets. People without Internet access can book tickets by visiting a library, tourist information centre or council contact centre.
