New dance company steps into the spotlight

TALENTED young dancers will be putting their best feet forward in auditions for a new company.

The Youth Dance Company has been formed to hone the talents of dancers aged 13 to 19 living in south east Northumberland, including Cresswell, Ellington, Lynemouth and Linton.

Led by professional choreographer and teacher Nadia Iftkhar, the group will help members to develop dance technique and create new routines, culminating in a performance at Northern Stage in Newcastle.

All sessions are free and will take place at the Sporting Club in Cramlington Learning Village at weekends and during school holidays.

Ms Iftkhar said: “This is an incredible opportunity for talented young people to develop their choreographic and performance skills.

“I am very excited about the calibre of work we will be creating together.”

The project is supported by bait events and activities programme, which aims to encourage more people in the area to take part in arts.

It is part of Arts Council England’s Creative People and Places initiative.

The new company will create four new dances, which will be performed across the region, with the finale at Northern Stage next year.

Auditions to join the group will take place at the Sporting Club in Cramlington Learning Village on Sunday.

They are open to both male and female dancers, but everyone interested in attending must register at
