A young artist took inspiration from some feathered friends to create a special Mother’s Day treat.

Eight-year-old Pippi McCourt was named the winner of Sanderson Arcade’s design a Mother’s Day card competition with her drawing of puffins.

Hundreds of youngsters took part in the contest, with flowers, hearts and cute animals featuring on many of the entries, but it was Pippi’s puffins that proved the biggest hit with judges.

The Morpeth Abbeyfields First School pupil saw her design blown up into a giant card and her Mum Jenni picked up a hamper of goodies, including prizes from Hobbs, The Jewellers Guild and Jazz Hair.

She said: “We are over the moon for Pippi.

“It was such a shock when we received the phone call to say she had won. She is always entering competitions as she loves anything creative, and especially drawing.”
