ROYAL Mail is gearing up to deliver a festive mailbag of around 252 million items across the North East.
Postal staff, supported by extra seasonal workers, will be working round the clock to collect, sort and deliver Christmas cards, letters and parcels to more than 3.9 million addresses in the region.
And residents are being asked to post early and order presents early to help the company spread the workload.
The last posting dates are as follows: Thursday, December 22 for Special Delivery items.
Tuesday, December 20 for first class items and Saturday, December 17 for second class items.
Monday, December 12 for airmail items to western Europe, Friday, December 9 for eastern Europe, the USA, Canada and Japan and Monday, December 5 for mail to the rest of the world.
