Pupils celebrate World Book Day

From pirates to princesses and everything in between, there were characters galore as a Morpeth school celebrated World Book Day.

St Robert’s RC First School in Oldgate turned the international children’s literary event into a whole-school affair on Thursday.

All of the pupils, and most of the staff, donned colourful outfits as they dressed up as their favourite storybook characters.

And parents were also invited to join in the fun and listen to children reading their favourite stories.

There were reading and writing activities for all age groups throughout the day, including book cover design and poster competitions.

Headteacher Vivien Cunningham said: “What a fantastic day we had.”
