Santa puts in an early appearance

SANTA Claus is coming to town a little bit early to hand out £300 of gifts.

The arts and crafts goodies will be delivered to the Coquet Children’s Centre in Bondicar Road, Hadston, by Father Christmas himself.

The Volvo-run initiative will see Santa visit 12 Action for Children centres across the UK.

Members of the Hadston-based Parents Forum, Children and Family First, along with youngsters from the centre, will meet Santa tomorrow at 6.30pm.

Meanwhile, Hadston’s Christmas lights were switched on at the weekend as part of a community event.

Local youngster Charlotte Mossman was chosen to do the honours.

An array of seasonally-themed entertainment put the crowds in the mood for the festive season, including a visit from Santa who heard children’s wishes in his grotto.

A choir from James Calvert Spence College, Amble, was joined by youngsters from Broomhill and Red Row first schools, while represenatives from St John the Divine Church, Chevington, also joined the celebrations.
