ROYAL Wedding activities will run alongside traditional events at the Morpeth Northumbrian Gathering.
The three-day festival, which celebrates Northumberland’s culture and heritage, begins on the same day as the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton so organisers were keen to incorporate some celebrations.
Now Arts Council England has indicated that it will award a grant specifically to fund the wedding-related elements of the festival.
While the Gathering Committee has welcomed the grant, there is still a shortage of general funds and volunteers.
Chairman Kim Bibby-Wilson said: “It is very nice and we appreciate it, but it is for something extra — we still need to look for funding for the core activities. We are not out of the woods yet and of course we also need volunteers and stewards.”
The event runs from Friday, April 29 to Sunday, May 1.
