AN annual UK event which celebrates regional languages will be held in Morpeth later this year.
The Northumbrian Language Society, a registered charity, is hosting the 2012 National Dialect Day.
Speakers, poets, story tellers and singers are among those who will be at the Town Hall for the event.
The main programme on Saturday, October 20, includes dialect competitions and the annual Roland Bibby Memorial Dialect Lecture, followed by The Merry Neet: an evening of entertainment.
The day before, the county’s leading young Northumbrian musicians, The Northumbrian Ranters, will perform a concert in Morpeth Methodist Church, from 7.30pm.
On Sunday, October 21, at noon, there will be a Trafalgar Day toast on the steps of Lord Collingwood’s House in Oldgate, after a Northumbrian Dialect church service in St George’s United Reformed Church in Bridge Street.
