Church casts its net for young

ORGANISERS of the Messy Church for Morpeth children are hoping to get a good catch at the next event on Saturday.

The theme is Jesus calling his disciples to follow him, and activities will reflect that Jesus asked fishermen to follow him and become ‘fishers of men’.

They include making fish from clay, making fishing boats and racing them across the water, producing a coloured set of footsteps to follow, decorating fish to hang in a fishing net and several others.

There will also be refreshments and a short act of worship.

The event, put together by an ecumenical group from all the town’s churches, will take place at St James’s Community Centre in Wellway, between 3pm and 5pm.

All young children are invited, as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

The session follows a successful Messy Carol Service in the Town Hall before Christmas.

About 20 children and their parents attended the service, where there were also biscuits to decorate, crowns to make and juice and mince pies to enjoy.

The Christmas story was re-told and the children who had come dressed up were encouraged to take part in the journey to Bethlehem and visit the Manger to adore baby Jesus.
