Northumberland has been voted the best UK family holiday destination by a parenting website.

Mumsnet UK has given a glowing report of the county after naming it the best place for a holiday, ahead of competition from Yorkshire, Cornwall and Dorset.

It states: “Northumberland is the hot ticket for 2015.

“The region has something for everyone, and gets rave reviews for its beautiful clean beaches.”

In the article released on, users added: “The Northumberland coast wins for us every time.

“If you stay in Seahouses you have all the traditional seaside stuff on the doorstep, but we tend to go for a holiday cottage in one of the pretty villages dotted around.”

This is not the first time Northumberland has received such high praise.

And during a recent episode of More Tales from Northumberland with Robson Green, the number of people accessing the Visit Northumberland website tripled throughout the broadcast.

Northumberland Tourism General Manager Jude Leitch said: “We think Northumberland is a fabulous place for family holidays with plenty of fascinating historical sites and wild landscapes to enjoy. It is great to see someone like Mumsnet agree.”
