Quality screenings on the doorstep with community cinema

Morpeth Community Cinema

Friday, February 5 saw the first screening of 2016 for Morpeth Community Cinema.

An audience of more than 77 people packed into Morpeth Town Hall to watch the 2015 re-make of the Thomas Hardy classic Far from the Madding Crowd.

The film follows headstrong Victorian beauty Bathsheba as she is pursued by three suiters — a sheep farmer, a dashing soldier and a rich landowner.

The community cinema has been operating for several years and continues to go from strength to strength.

With its large screen and new modern projection equipment, the cinema screenings have become very popular, with many of the audience regular visitors each month.

The regular cinema-goers thoroughly enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and the convenient location, with no need to travel further afield.

New visitors watching the latest screening commented on the surprising quality of the picture and sound.

Films are shown on the first Friday of the month.

The next screening is at Morpeth Town Hall, at 7pm, on Friday, March 4, when the film classic The Third Man will be shown.

The film, which was made in 1949, has been rated as the best British film ever made, with an audience approval rating of 94 per cent.

Tickets are £6 and can be purchased from Morpeth Town Hall, Morpeth Tourist Information Centre in The Chantry, and from the Greater Morpeth Development Trust on 01670 530866.

Tickets may also be purchased on the door subject to availability.
