The third Morpeth Jam Competition will once again be taking place at the Morpeth Food and Drink Festival on Saturday, October 1.
The popular event, which is held at The Morpeth Chantry, will see an array of delicious seasonal jams bidding to be crowned the Morpeth Jam of the Year.
The competition was won for the first year by local tearoom owner Sarah Taylor, of the Peppermint tea room, last year’s winner was Morag Thompson for her Rhubarb & Ginger Jam.
A scone competition was also held last year and was won by Ian Shaw, who produced a delicious cheese scone and this year the competition will also be heating up to find the town’s tastiest sweet pie.
Dawn Goodwill-Evans, Business Development (Tourism) Active Northumberland who is co-ordinating the event, said: “Last year we had the highest standard of entries by far.
“We are really looking forward to adding another category this year with the sweet pies. What started out as a small competition is certainly starting to turn into a prestigious and competitive event.
“The food service industry is always keen to source locally made food products. It also helps to raise the profile of Morpeth and its quality offer.”
The committee is honoured to have qualified judge – Kathleen Jones, from the WI, to set the judging standards on the day, along with Nic Best, Morpeth Town Councillor, and Dawn Goodwill-Evans.
