Living history

VISITORS to Belsay Hall this Bank Holiday will be able marvel at a medieval merriment.

Four brave knights will take part in the Tournament of Foote to do battle for the coveted Sword of Honour, re-enacting archery and Crest Melee competitions.

Families can also try out archery themselves, browse the authentic Living History Encampment and enjoy the sweet sound of Medieval music, while the colourful court jester will entertain in his School for Fools.

Special activities will be organised for children, from dancing to dressing up.

The event will take place on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, from 11am to 5pm.

But the old-fashioned family fun will continue at the English Heritage property during half term week.

There are plenty of hands-on activities to enjoy from Tuesday to Friday as ‘Time Travellers Go... Medieval’.

These include dressing up, Medieval dancing, a sword drill and even a chance to try on a child-size suit of armour, as well as arts and crafts. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Activities will run from 11am to 4.30pm each day.
