A classical treat awaits

CLASSICAL music fans are in for a treat as a popular choral group stages its spring concert.

The Mid Northumberland Chorus will present Mendelssohn in May, with four soloists performing a programme of some of the composer’s best loved pieces.

Music will include Hymn of Praise, Hear my Prayer, Te Deum, excerpts from Elijah and O, for the wings of a dove.

Soloists are soprano Veronica Gilbert, contralto Elizabeth Howliston, tenor Anthony Harbottle and baritone Eric Brown, all conducted by musical director Paul Toward.

The concert will be held in St James’s Church, Morpeth, on Wednesday, at 7.30pm, and tickets cost £5 each. They are available on the door or by calling 01670 790268.

And for anyone unable to make the Morpeth performance, the concert will be repeated in All Saints Parish Church, Rothbury, on Saturday, May 28, at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £7.
