Carols by candlelight

Community carolling by candlelight spread the joys of Christmas throughout the streets of Lynemouth.

Members of St Aidan’s Church were joined by pupils from the William Leech Campus of Northumberland Church of England Academy to lead the traditional festive sing-song.

The carol singers set off from the campus and processed along the main shopping street to Park View, before making the return journey back to the school for refreshments, singing all the way. Vicar of Cresswell and Lynemouth, the Rev Alan Simpson said: “Candlelit carols are our gift to the Lynemouth community, bringing together the church, the school and the residents of the village in spreading the news of God’s gift at Christmas. “We’ve taken Christmas out to Lynemouth, even though we can’t offer a service in the village church at Christmas, and of course we hope to see many Lynemouth folk just up the road at Cresswell.”

St Aidan’s meets at the William Leech Campus in Dalton Avenue on Sundays and will be joining with St Bartholomew’s Church in Cresswell for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day worship.
