AN internationally-acclaimed pianist will return to Morpeth to launch a new season of music.
Morpeth Music Society begins its 69th season next week, and it couldn’t get off to a more impressive start.
Pianist Nikolai Demidenko was born in Russia and trained at the Gnessin School. His international career began when he reached the finals of the 1978 Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow, and he taught at the Menuhin School. Now he gives recitals in venues around the world.
His Morpeth programme is all Schubert — the D.899 Impromptus, Drei Klavierstucke D.946 and Piano Sonata in D major D.850 (Op.53).
The concert takes place at Morpeth Methodist Church on Thursday, October 3, at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £12, or £55 for the season. Entry is free for those aged 18 or under. Tickets are available from Morpeth Tourist Information Centre or by telephone on 01670 513369.
