The St George’s Community players in Morpeth return to the stage when they tackle Ian Hornby’s three act farce Hello!….Is there Any Body There?
David Swinton, who is directing the production, said: “This is a farce that has been carefully written to keep the audience, and possibly the cast, in the dark over the identity of the murderer.
“In the best tradition of farce, the improbable becomes the inevitable and the cast find themselves having to resolve problems while the play evolves.”
Lady Amelia Simpson-Squire, a writer of mystery novels, and her husband Sir Malcolm, live in Squire Grange, a remote house on the edge of the moors. They are looked after by a butler called Smalls and a cook general, Mabel. Lady Amelia and Sir Malcolm persuade a family friend, Freddy Lyons, to imagine that he is going to murder Sir Malcolm and suggest ways he could commit the perfect crime.
As the body count starts to rise both on and off stage, Lady Amelia decides the police need to be involved and invites Detective Miss Marbles to go to the hall to solve the case. Confusion reigns and it is the input from the prompt that resolves the mystery — or does it?”
The show runs from Thursday, March 23 to Saturday March 25, at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the Chantry TIC.
