There’s murder afoot for Morpeth’s St George’s Community Players.

The drama group will present comedy thriller A Murder Booked for their next production, written by their own playwright Eileen Clark.

The play is set in the home of recently remarried widower Stephen Graham, a successful writer of crime fiction. All seems set for a blissfully happy future until the murder, mystery and intrigue he creates in his books enters into his real life. Who is to blame? Friends, neighbours, the new Mrs Graham, or could it be Stephen himself who is responsible for the whole nasty business?

The play will feature many well-known faces from the Players, including Jared Johnson, David Keily, Carmel Adamson, Sue Elliott and Martin Farrington, as well as newest member Charlotte Dodson in the role of Eve Russell.

However, preparations in the run up to the play have not been favourable. A spokesman for the group said: “The production has been dogged by ill health, particularly for Eileen Clark.

“Eileen has had severe back problems followed by other health issues, which has meant that she has only been able to attend a couple of early rehearsals. We are hoping that she will be able to come along to at least one rehearsal before we open.

“Jared Johnson has taken up the directorial mantle, despite having to struggle with a heavy, long-lasting cold and chest infection.

“Other members have also struggled with health problems, but we are sure that all will be returned to rude health by curtain up.”

The play runs from Thursday, March 26, to Saturday, March 28, at 7.30pm, at St George’s Church Hall.

Tickets cost £6, £5 concession, available from Morpeth Chantry Tourist Information Centre.
