A NEW enterprise is giving young people in Morpeth the chance to learn about all things theatre.
Francesca Earnshaw is imparting her knowledge of and passion for drama, visual media and creative arts through term time evening classes, holiday workshops and work in schools.
Rootz Theatre covers disciplines such as acting, singing and dance, and also teaches film making.
The name stems from the desire for classes to be influenced by the community. Students will be encouraged to draw from their own ideas and experiences when creating their work.
Ms Earnshaw said: “In the past I have worked on a number of different projects and performances in a range of different creative disciplines.
“I was introduced into the world of film making at college and quickly found I had a knack for editing film and enjoyed the whole process of short film making.
“Swapping disciplines when going to university, from Fine Art to Drama, I enjoyed the challenge of the different subject.
“I feel incredibly fortunate to have had so many different experiences and opportunities in my own youth and I now wish to create similar ones for students in and around Morpeth.”
Rootz Theatre is running taster classes at Storey Park Community Centre, Kirkhill, for six weeks beginning on Monday. They will run on Monday nights until July 11, from 5pm to 6pm for ages seven to 11, and 6pm to 7pm for ages 12 to 21.
Summer workshops are also available in August.
