History goes on display

Rarely seen pieces of the region’s business history have gone on display to mark the 200th anniversary of the North East Chamber of Commerce.

A free exhibition has been staged by the regional business group, featuring a telegram from King George V and Lord Kitchener congratulating the chamber on its centenary year, and a letter from former Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain shortly after he returned to Britain from Berlin in 1938, before the start of the Second World War.

It is being held at the Literary and Philosophical Society in Newcastle throughout April, and will move to the Cargo Fleet Heritage Gallery in Middlesbrough next month.
